THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS

It’s that magical time of the year again! When home feels a little warmer, the world feels a little calmer, and we find ourselves gathering more intentionally. Around our family. Around our church. And sometimes around stories that help us to unwind, share a smile, and be present.

And in that same spirit, we’re celebrating the joy of coming together through film. Whether they’re holiday classics or hidden seasonal gems, we’re spotlighting some movies that entertain, uplift, and linger with us long after the credits roll.

At Plumb, that’s what we care about most: helping grow a community of people who love Christ and movies as much as we do. Bringing together fans, filmmakers, and supporters who believe stories can be bold, joyful, and meaningful at the same time. Stories that point us toward the True Vertical and draw us closer to one another.

SAINT NICK OF BETHLEHEM (2024)

From Christian media company Hard Faith, Saint Nick of Bethlehem is an original holiday comedy shaped by both loss and hope. After the death of his son, one man unexpectedly becomes “Santa” to his community, offering joy to others while slowly rediscovering his own. Blending humor and redemption, the film reminds us that Christmas stories don’t have to be glossy to be meaningful — sometimes the most genuine joy comes through healing.

THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS (2023)

Set over one chaotic Christmas Eve, The Perfect Christmas follows a family whose plans unravel through pranks, mishaps, and criminal misadventures. What starts as a farce slowly reveals something more familiar: the pressure we put on ourselves to make the holidays flawless. Beneath the comedy is a gentle reminder that connection matters more than perfection... and that sometimes the messiest Christmas memories are the ones we cherish most.

TOGETHER AS ONE

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor and theologian who resisted the Nazi regime and was executed for his faith, once wrote that Christian community exists “through Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ.” Whether in a single encounter or a lifetime of shared fellowship, he believed our connection to one another is rooted entirely in Him.

That vision echoes the heart of Scripture. In the Great Commission, Jesus sends His followers out not as isolated individuals, but as a collective called into a shared purpose (Matthew 28:16–20). And in His final prayer, He asks that they would be one, just as He and the Father are one (John 17:20–26).

At Christmas, that calling feels especially near. Jesus doesn’t arrive as an abstract idea, but as a living person who gathers His children, gives direction, and invites us into something bigger than ourselves. That’s the spirit behind what we’re trying to build here — a community shaped by faith, creativity, and shared stories. Not perfect or polished, but rooted in Christ and moving forward together.

THE FIRST GIFT

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” — John 1:14 (NIV)

Christmas is often called the season of giving. But long before there were presents to exchange or traditions to keep, God gave the first gift. Not something symbolic. Not something temporary. He gave His son.

The holidays remind us that God didn’t choose distance. He chose to be near us. He stepped into time, into flesh, into ordinary life. The heart of the season isn’t generosity for its own sake, but presence — the willingness to dwell, to stay, to be with.

That reframes how we think about giving.

In a season filled with noise and obligation, it’s easy to focus on what we can offer with our hands. But often, the most meaningful gifts require something quieter: our attention, our patience, our availability. The choice to slow down and be fully present with the people we love.

Jesus came not to impress, but to live among us. To share meals. To listen. To love.

So this week, as we celebrate what God has given us, consider what it might look like to give in the same spirit. Not perfectly. Just faithfully.

Merry Christmas.

Until next time,
